What do quality and safety standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 add?

Short answer: ISO 9001 describes a quality management system and ISO 45001 an occupational health and safety management system, so a recycler certified to them has been audited on how it controls quality and manages workplace risk, which is relevant if you want to deal with an organised, safety-conscious operator, but like other management standards they certify the system and not individual outcomes.

Quality management

ISO 9001 focuses on consistent processes and customer satisfaction, which can show in how reliably a recycler weighs, grades and pays.

Health and safety

ISO 45001 focuses on protecting workers, which matters if you or your staff will be on the site delivering material.

The same limit applies

These standards show that a system exists and is audited, and they do not replace your own checks.
